Eyescapes

This body of work comprising abstracted eyes in oil on Mylar emerged from my thesis at OCADU in 2002. These paintings are an attempt to combine the landscape of the eye and what we see; I use brushes to lay down thin washes of oil mixed with various amounts of alkyd medium, depending on how thick I want the paint to be, and then adding or abstracting paint. Most often, I use just two colours – ultramarine blue and burnt sienna – to mix a broad range of greys, blues, browns and blacks, and my favourite tool is a cheap dollar store cotton swab.

Paintings range from 6 x 6 and most are available as giclee prints. Originals range from $60 to $3600, and prints from $20.
